Mommy Moments, Tantrums Tantrums
If you’re a new mom, you might have encountered a child’s tantrum and may have no idea how to handle it. Actually, it’s really not a simple task, and sometimes you run out of options. When my children are growing up, people ask me how they’re well-behaved, actually, they’re really active kids and would run up and down the whole place when we visit a friend or go to a gathering at church, but rarely do they have tantrums.
Managing a kids tantrum doesn’t have a formula, just a mother’s patience and creativity.
First, you have to recognize why the child is crying. Is the child hungry? Is the child tired? (Now in the English language, being sleepy is different from being tired from walking, so when you mean tired is the child sleepy or is it time for him/her to sleep?) Is the child bored? When you find out the reason of the tantrum, you will have the solution.
When my children were small, they’re not allowed to throw stuff or they get spanking. This is to let them know that there’s other option to show their frustrations, but not in a violent way. Screaming will only aggravate you and your child, so minimize if you could, but since both of you are at the end of your wits, you might also find yourself raising your voice, but when you realize it, just stop and breathe, then try to speak to the child in a low tone voice.
Arguing with the child is not advisable, you’re not talking to an adult. You are not to argue, you are to discipline.
