To Catch a Predator

A more relevant update will be posted once I changed my ISP.

And let me talk about another obvious, I’m still using a different system for browsing because for some reason, I just can’t visit blogs and all I can pull out is YouTube –which doesn’t really have much relevant, sensible use for me (or so I thought) and my Yahoo that is always blank. And I even formatted my PC, reinstalled my OS and other stuff. Still nada!

Moving forward, I was browsing around YouTube and found Dateline NBC – To Catch a Predator with Chris Hansen. The program is a sort of sting operation to nab older people who solicit sexual favors from young children (even as young as 12 years old!) and these usually happen when a child is contacted by an adult in a chat room. It got me interested in watching more because, my children also uses the Internet, and most of the time when I’m not at home, of course, being a rebellious teen-ager, my son would log in to the computer without my consent. The danger of this technology can be enormous if not affecting a single person alone. There’s a lot of risk in it, like sexual predators out to get pleasure even if they are dealing with children. These sexual perverts don’t necessarily have to be in your home, they can initiate the conversation over the internet, right then and there. You can imagine a young child stripped of their innocence just because someone couldn’t find anything sensible to do. I felt sorry for one, but it still doesn’t give him the reason to prey on an (if not) innocent child.

Because of this, I decided to educate my children on such dangers over the internet and informed them that this time surfing sites will be regulated and have to be written on a piece of paper where I can check it.

Good parenting is a very tedious task, it doesn’t end with working for their welfare, but you also need to focus on their developing values, parents should greatly influence them to be sensible enough to weight the good from the bad, this will be their guiding map for their future.
