Buyer – Contractor Agreement for VA’s
Every project, always presents challenges, some are workable and some are nearly impossible. And this is what I’ve learned – for a contractor like me, who will and encounters difficulties with numerous instructions, a written agreement of your role is a very big help. This is because your client is not the one responsible for the delivery of the service, but how you solved that bump in the road you met, so to speak. And in this business, I also have my own share of difficulties with numerous instructions, and it will really drive me crazy if I don’t put them down in notes.

Now, for those who would like to involve themselves in the Home-based Administrative business, this is what I suggest you do:
First of, lay out a clear directive for both you and the buyer of what you are working for. If it’s a single project or if it’s a full time office management job with multiple task. This saves you the drama of confusion over what you should be doing in the first place.
Take for example this project that I did. Basically, my understanding was I’m going to manage calls and book appointments. It was expressed however that future tasks will be added. However, despite the verbal communication, having a lacking in sufficient orientation on the tasks I took -as everything was hurried, things became vague and confusing for me. And the buyer – client relationship became sour.
There’s always a constant nagging thoughts of “Am I doing the right things?” or “Is this how its supposed to be?” or “I thought that’s what he said he wanted?”
Both expectations weren’t met and one more important thing I learned, never ever ever be friends with your buyer unless the project is done. This is now what I clearly remember having read in the Bible (you will really see the relevance of God’s word in our lives), “Seldom set foot in your neighbor’s house — too much of you, and he will hate you. – Proverbs 25: 17″ if you’re familiar of Mark Twain’s saying “Familiarity breeds contempt – and children” then you should know what I’m trying to say about Contractor – Buyer relationship. Being friendly is a lot different than being friends.
For this reason, I decided to draft my own buyer – contractor agreement. In it is a very basic and simple agreement that tells what my jobs are and what I only should be doing for the buyer, as well as the price for the service.
